9800 vs 4350

Ok, one of my clan mates is trying to upgrade his PC and so far, his choice is either an nVidia 9800 (not sure if it's a GT or GTX), or an ATI 4350.

I thought the 9800 is the clear winner, but everyone else is trying to get him to buy the 4350.

Am i missing something?!

Explanations seem to range from them being equal because they're both 1Gig, up to the apparently 'established' fact that ATI=Faster.
 
They must be on some good drugs. A GeForce 9800 will stomp a Radeon 4350 no questions asked. ATI's competitor for the 9800 is roughly a 4830.
 
It's just so frustrating watching people get swayed just because they see another videocard with the same ram.

The guys here have fanboys trying to one up each other with their respective cards performance. Outside this forum, they disregard performance altogether and just say a 1Gig ATI card is faster (Note that no model number is mentioned).

I wouldn't even put those two in the same ballpark, but the others are seriously considering them :facepalm:

EDIT: This does mean that the enthusiast market does have a significant impact on the low end. As shown by this recent experience.

Just point them to some charts or something. At best they'll see their mistake, at worst the kid will get the 4350, and depending on what his previous card was, might even get a performance boost and be happy with it. The glass might just fill. I mean it would have filled alot more with a 9800 but hey, whatever floats his boat. ;)
 
It's funny/sad when you ask your friend what video card he has and responses with "the 1GB Nvidia card".

Maybe people are confusing the 9800 as ATI's top of the line video card 7 years ago, the ATI 9800pro and not Nvidia's 9800GT (an issue with the thread title not listing enough info).

9800GT better than HD4350.

Instead of 9800GT,take the HD4850.
same price+- and better
