9800 pro problem?

Well, I was playing counter strike on my computer (specs in sig.) and i start to notice glitch like boxes all over, then it turned into checkerboard types. So i restart my computer, no luck. So then i turn off my computer and unplug video card, then replug it and then computer wont boot, i figured out i didn;t plug the power cord back into the vid card correctly so i use a new cord. Then i start up comp and it works fine. I go into Counter strike and start playing. I start to notice that it is lagging, i check my fps and its only 40- 50 occasionaly 70. What is going on? How can i fix my fps and raise it higher. I tried terminating some programs but no luck.
 
sounds like it's overheating. check airflow, fan on the card (make sure it's spinning), make sure the heasink isnt loose, etc
 
The fan on the card is spinning, the air flow i guess is moderate, only thing that might cause it to overheat is the fact that i have a system blower right under the card pushing air out, and i have a fan on the left side of the case also pushing air out, so would a valid fix be to simply turn the fan on the left side of the case inwards to push air right into the card?
 
If you've made no driver changes, checkboard patterns usually mean either damaged GPU pipes or damaged video RAM. You could try underclocking with ATITool. If underclocking either the GPU or video RAM cleans up the corruption then you know the cause of the problem. If it really is damaged chips then all you can do is replace the video board or try to do a better job of cooling it.
 
Well, i downloaded the ati tool, and opened up my case for more airflow and when i opened up the 3d view i got an average of 205 fps. What should i do after i downloaded it?
 
That still doesn't explain why i run at only 70 fps in Counter Strike, (according to the fps moniter by cs)
 
Do you think it could be a driver problem? like i didn't install a driver correctly?
I usually just download the new drivers and install em.
 
did you uninstall old drivers first? Maybe play around with Gart/SMARTGART settings...?
 
no i dont uninstall the driver first, i just simply install over the old one, please explain how to correctly uninstall the driver because, i don't feel comfortable doing it with official assistance.
 
go into your control panel and add/remove programs. then uninstall anything with 'ATI' in it. I usually have three things. Restart your computer. Right click on My Computer and go to properties > hardware > device manager and make sure nothing is under "display adapters"

then go ahead and install your drivers. always uninstall your old drivers before installing new ones.
