9800 Pro Dead?

To make a long story short, heatsink fan on Powercolor 9800Pro failed. Noticed some artifacts followed by severe tearing. I would say that the card ran for approx 30min without a heatsink fan. My question is, is the card salvageable with a new cooling solution, or is the damage already done?
I would rather not have to buy a new vid card at this time, if the chances are good that I can just replace the heatsink/fan combo and have a working card. That said, I don't want to spend the money on new HS/Fan combo if the damage is already done and just put it towards a new card.

Don't have an exact temp, but it was hot to the touch, would have blistered my finger. Warranty is expired by 2 months. The card would still run 2d ok, such as desktop etc. (I hadn't discovered the problem at this point and was messing with drivers), although there was some artifacting present
 
Try sticking a new HSF on it. It's possible that it was running cool enough in 2d mode to allow normal usage, and you just heated it up in 3d mode enough to cause artifacts. Usually if the card is permanantly damaged, you'll see artifacts in the same place/style all the time, 2d or 3d because the core is damaged, not because the heat is interfering with the signal. As long as the HS was on there, even if the fan is dead, you should be OK. I would be worried if you took the HS off and ran it without anything covering the core. That could cause damage. However, I would replace the HSF before I used it again.
 
If it works in 2D then I would say it will work fine in 3D when you get a new HSF. There are lots of good aftermarket cooling solutions for your card.
 
if its running fine in 2d mode then its probably not dead. Try getting a new HSF for it and see what happens in 3d mode.
 
Well, I just ordered an Arctic Cooling, VGA silencer. I hope it works, if not, $30 lost, if it does, $200 saved.
