9800 pro black screen

I recently got a hand me down ATI 9800 pro-problem is, when I install it in my aging P3 1ghz system, all I get on power up is a black screen-no post, no nothing. The mobo is an Abit BF6 (told you it was aging!). Tried the card in my daughter's old P2 Packard Bell, seems to come up fine, but in another BF6 system, same black screen problem. Anyone have a fix or am I stuck till I buy a new mb? Thanks, Mike.
 
Dug out the manual for the mobo--it is 2x agp......guess I'll just have to upgrade. Wouldn't you think the older packard bell pentium 2 would only be 1 or 2x?
