9800 gt overclock

For christmas my brother recevied a pny 9800 gt 1gb to replace an x1900xtx....

I noticed the core clock of this card is at 550 mhz.... would it be possible to clock it to 700 mhz? Im not sure if 700 mhz is too high or even logical
(ive never overclocked a video card before)

so would it be possible to get to 700 mhz or is that too high?

what would you all recommend?

also can someone recommend easy-to-use overclocking software
 
I have a 9600GT which can OC to 700MHz core no problems but my stock clock speed started@650Mhz so I don't think you can reach 700MHz from 550 athough I could be wrong. I would bet you can hit 625 to 650 though.....
 
550mhz on the GPU? im guessing this is one of those 9800GT EE cards? because stock clock should be 600/1503/900.. which is the same as the 8800GT.. now if its not the EE card.. then you should be able to hit some where around 735/1836/1000 since it has a higher gpu voltage then the 8800GT.. now if it is the EE card you will probably be limited to around 714/1785/1000..

rivatuner is a good program to use.. also EVGA precision.. even though its not an EVGA card it should work fine.. just make sure you install ntunes for your nvidia drivers so you can use the built in test feature in evga precision..
