9600XT Or Equiv.

know that the 5900 wouldn't do well with three things: AA/AF and DX9. The DX9 isn't so bad since I prefer OpenGL, but AA and AF are a must to any real gamer in my opinion

True and isnt one of the main if not only reason to buy a new dx9 card is so you can enable AA and AF without a shocking performance hit;)

So, are you saying the 5900 can not do AA/AF well? Is the AA/AF still better on the 5900 than the 9600XT? Also, will someone anwser my questions about the different types of 5900's?

Just buy a 9700 Pro for $207 on zipzoom, and then you don't have to worry about anything. Its better than both 9600xt/5900nonultra, and you will be able to enable aa/af in dx9 games without losing performance. Just suck it up and get a 9700 Pro and don't worry about it...

Look at the reviews. The 5900 is a better card then the 9600xt.

My next question is what is the difference between the FX 5900, the FX 5900XT, FX 5900 SE, and the FX 5900 Ultra? Could someone rank them by performance? Which ones can I get for under $200?

I still am wondering about the different versions of the 5900. Also, just to let you know, buying the 9700 Pro is not in the question, I am already stretching my budget.

Okay...
I have been looking at these cards, in particular the eVGA 5900SE for $188 and now that Asylum FX5900 for $175...
and comparing them to the 9600xt cards.. and seeing the prices of the 9800pro and that 9700 pro... eek.. so many options!
I think I will wait for the next cards to come out..:D

Oh and I dont really have a preference between ATI and Nvidia.. since it seems that ATIs tend to be more powerful and Nvidias tend to be more affordable. Had 1 ati (All in wonder), 2 nvidias (Gf2,gf4) never really happy about the results..

If you wait until the next cards come out, you will have the same confusion! I have decided to just go with the Aslyum 5900.

Well I just have to say I used to have a 9700pro and yestereday I installed a 9600XT with the 4.1 drivers and can I saw WOW! IQ is amazingly better then on my 9700 pro. I am not sure what they have done but it is really clean...

With the 5900 the hit for performance is greater than that of the 9600. That's what I'm saying.

Aslong as the 5900 is still faster who cares.

I find it funny that the 9600xt which is a midend card has to be compared to the 5900 series which is nvidias higher end lol.

I also find it extremly funny that people will first buy a near top of the range card then say even if it tanks in AA and AF its still faster:rolleyes: The main reason to buy a new generation card is so you can enable AA and AF or you may as well just buy the ti4800SE and be done with it:confused:

And to cut it short the 9600XT is compared to the FX5900 so much because nvidia has nothing to compare with ATI's top of the range and that is truth not fanboyism;)
