I am having an unusual driver problem with my 9600Pro.
Current Set Up
Gigabyte GA-K8VNXP
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
1GB PC 3200 Corsair
Enermax 460W PSU
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
Sound Blaster Live 5.1 OEM
IDE-0
Western Digital 7200RPM 80Gb
Western Digital 7200RPM 100Gb
IDE-1
Western Digital 7200RPM 40Gb
Pioneer A07 DVD-RW
As I am wanting to refresh my current WinXP install that is on IDE-0 80Gb I decided to do my install on IDE-1 to make my backup a littler easier on myself. The current install of XP runs fine as far as video is concerned. But on my new install that has SP-2 slipstreamed I am have some pretty bad problems.
As soon as the install is finished I install the latest Catalyst drivers and reboot. After reboot and login an undetermined amount of time passes and my monitor goes into standby and I am unable to shut down or restart the PC via keyboard. Also the light on my optical mouse goes out when this happens. After this happened I booted into safe mode and removed all of the catalyst drivers and gave the latest Omega drivers a shot. After reboot the same result occured.
At this point I booted back to my original XP install and everything ran fine. Was able to play Far Cry , Doom3 etc.... Since the card performs well on one install and not the other I thought that I might have had a jacked up install but I have formatted and reinstalled the OS on IDE-1 drive 3 times and every result is the lockup. Anyone have any thought about what this could be and how I could remedy it?
Forgot to mention that the card and all hardware is stock with no overclocking
