I have an Asus RT-AC66 router. I am connecting to the router on my Asus g750jw laptop with the network adapter shown below -

In windows my 802.11ac radio is showing as 802.11n, as seen here-

and here-

What makes me think it's a fault with my laptop and not the router is my network adapter is only setup/designed to see N networks as per the radio types supported seen in the screen seen below-

Have I missed a setting that enables my clearly labeled 802.11AC network adapter to pick up and use the AC network being sent by my router?

Do some speed test. I thought mine wasn't connecting correctly either until I did some file transfer and internet speed test. It was showing the connection speed of 130mb/s instead of like 1000 like it was.

AC IS AWESOME.

You are running on 802.11ac. 867Mbps on 2.4Ghz radio band dual stream. You can't go any higher to 1300Mbps because your NIC lacks the 5Ghz radio.
