I am looking for a smaller LCD for a case mod I am working on. It needs to be 8.5" or smaller and a VGA or DVI monitor, not an LCD TV/Video/automotive product.

Anyone make one that won't break the bank?

They exist, lots on eBay. Note, the highest resolution you'll pull at 8" is 800x600, most are widescreen and run 800x400. Many will claim a supported resolution of 1024x768, they are scaling that, which == ugly. Typical cost is $130 to $160. Search for '8" xga' and you'll find them.
