7970 low fps in bf3

My 7970 seems to be running bf3 badly. I get about 20-25FPS at 2560x1440@Ultra settings. The card is overclocked to 1200/1600. Dropping the settings to low only gets the frame rate up to low 40s. Is this normal?
 
Not at all. I average 50-60 FPS at that resolution, but I don't have AA enabled. The only time I drop down to 35 or so is when I look at the entire map from a vantage point, say on Karkland. Is that the type of place you're talking about? With MSAA, 25 FPS would make sense.

What's your GPU usage while playing?
 
What's your CPU clocked at, how much RAM do you have & what type of drive are you running? You are trying to run at a very high resolution with Ultra settings.
 
I think the problem was msi afterburner had the clocks all jacked up. Shouldn't of installed a beta version. About to find out for sure.
 
CCC and Afterburner dont get along very well at all ha. If you do one thing in one you gotta make sure it doesn't screw up the other especially when overclocking. Glad you got it figured out!
 
I had a similar problem with afterburner, it only clocked the gpu up to 500mhz. did the "unofficial unlock" and it stopped doing it.
 
MSI Afterburner doesn't get along will with PowerPlay. The 500MHz comes from kicking in the UVD state (watching a YouTube video, etc.) and then playing a game. Simply close the YouTube window and it'll clock back up.
 
The AB thing with the officially released 12.3's (28/3/2012) is messed up. I'm using AB 2.2 beta 15. I needed to set "unofficial overclocking" to 0, remove the EULA, and my clocks showed up in AB. I'm running a 5870 & I'm able to hit my clocks of 1030/1300 and still control my voltages.

However, resetting lower stock clocks after using an oc profile, when I reboot at the lower clocked profile, AB starts up with the higher clocked profile. 😠 The check box for "use these clocks at startup" is unchecked. Previous versions would revert back to stock clocks after reboot.
