I'm see in this in The Witcher 2 and Skyrim. These seem to be the two worst offenders. It just looks like it's dropping frames. If I play either in windowed mode, they're perfect. This doesn't occur in the same system with a 580.

EDIT: Tested some DX10 and DX11 games and nothing was exhibiting similar behavior.

I'm getting this too... Fresh windows 7 x64 install. Skyrim is BAD, and so is witcher 2. WoW also has a similar behavior in DX9 AND DX11 modes.

EDIT: I haven't tried windowed mode.

getting this in Skyrim for sure. I go about 8 steps forward then 1 step back feeling

Just play the games in windowed mode and use AutoHotKey to force fullscreen mode. Skryim looks like shit for me unless I force fullscreen mode then it looks like butter.

Unreal is fine from what I've tried (UT3 and RO2). I'm going to be trying some older DX9 stuff tomorrow.

I think C&C3 is a DX9 game. It looks nice on a 7970 with everything maxed at 8xMSAA on a 2560x1600

I think that's the best solution after i spent $1300 on Xfire 7970 i should just cap it at 40FPS.

If you would bother to read reviews you would see that Witcher 2 on ultra settings (ubersampling off) is getting around 43 FPS avarage on an OCd 7970 at 2560x1600. So my artificial FPS limit is taking a whopping 3 FPS tops from my average FPS, while at the same time completely removing any stutter due to sudden spikes to 50+ FPS. The problem with stutter in so many games is not just sudden spikes of low FPS but also sudden spikes of high FPS. With an artificial FPS cap a few below your uncapped average you will eliminate stutter almost competely.

How about you find your max FSP for your system and then cap it a few FPS short of that number. If it removes most or all of the stutter, then what is the problem?

The 7970 isn't that great in DX9 games, it's only real weakness, but the drivers are fairly new and needs time to mature.

I know what you saying and im a bit disappointed coming from 580SLi i was running 60FPS locked, at the same ultra settings same as Skyrim and Rage and Saints Row 3 they all ran perfectly smooth on SLi and run like total shit on Xfire or Single 7970 for that matter...

I know i know its 1st week and we should wait for better drivers but i doubt they will fix all the above games in next couple of drivers... oh well.. at least i get 145fps in Heaven 2.5 :)

I'm confused, you got all these games to run locked at 60 FPS on a GTX 580 SLI rig and you felt you needed to upgrade?

I am getting stuter free 40 FPS in Witcher 2 on my single HD 7970 OCd to 1125/1575, the only way I could do this was to cap the FPS and it feels as smooth as butter. I have given you advice on how to fix stutter in some games, you can either do it to see if it helps, or ignore it while pining for your SLI GTX 580s :)

I have used GPUs from both Nvidia and ATI/AMD, in both single and mulit GPU setups over the years, and I have lost count of the number of times I had to find workarounds for problems from both camps.

I felt to upgrade same as as 99% of others on this forum.... what kind of question is that :) You don't know? its all in 3D mark and Heaven benchmarks...

I agree.
Every review or benchmark that I have looked at points to a weakness with DX9.
I smell bullshit

This is a card dropping frames and being an overall stuttery mess:

I don't have ANY issues when running Skyrim, 60fps all the time on 1900x1200 with 2.2GB Vram used (tons of 8k and 4k textures addons).

Yes, The Witcher 2 runs really bad, same performance with HD5870 I had before, 0 fps extra really. Not to mention that the card goes as hot as when running furmark (70-74c). Disabling Vsync brought the game back to life, the game play was smooth but still under not rly high FPS. Very playable like this though, since my HD5870 couldn't handle some scenes with Ubersampling on.

DX9 WoW runs fine for me, however in DX11 mode I get crashes at random (rare) times. I guess they will fix that in the future with catalyst updates.

That's about all the issues I have and I've tried many games to test the card till now.

It's just all over the place for people. Some are fine, some aren't. Different games are affected, etc.
