7950s Live on Newegg

Everybody already soft-colluded when the shortage became big news (probably exaggerated) and prices shot up suddenly and all of a sudden everybody was dumping their old inventory of 320GB and 500GB drives for $99.

As someone with a 7970DCII on order, I'll give you my take -

1. It's _only_ $600, or about what you pay for most other really modest OC cards, and you're sort of getting a lot more

2. The cooling is extremely effective and it's very quiet. This is key for me.

3. (the big one) they have 6 display outputs (4 DP and 2 DVI). This is absolutely critical for me, since I use a 3x1 eyefinity setup with 2007fps alongside a single U3011, and switch to a single HDTV occasionally, so I "need" a total of 5 displays hooked up simultaneously.

4. Asus is a very well reputed company and I've had nothing but good experience with their RMA process and customer service

5. Some motherboards (like mine) have two PCI-E slots in between the primary x16 PCI-E slots anyway, so putting two of these in crossfire isn't an issue - which is exactly what I'm planning to do. They are actually 2.5x slots, not 3, so you will still have a little extra gap too

Bottom line is that they're basically the same price as all the other stuff out there, they come with a lot of advantages, and the only real downside is the slightly larger size of the card, which isn't really an issue at all for some people.
 
Yeah I have plans for only one card, and was thinking maybe the DCII style 7970.
 
this might be the only new gen that has higher price/performance than the previous gen. great job amd.
 
Hope they have a $50 off instant coupon with a MIR soon. If such a deal were available I would buy one right now.

That is true about Canadian pricing, they figure since we are used to paying high prices when the dollar was low compared to the USD we can continue to pay high prices even though our dollar is near par now and has been for a long time. Amazon Canada prices often suck compared to the same item on Amazon USA. I've seen some electronics goods for over $100.00 more in Canada. It makes me see red.

I'm in Canada, I go by what Canadian prices are and not USA prices. I've seen 580s go for $600 up here and no 580 was ever released here at $499. USA is not the center of my universe.
 
Does somebody know how Newegg determines which product goes up on top of the list? I was thinking it is probably based on the card that has the highest amount of stock available.

Looks like most of the cards have come down $10 and with free shipping since the cards first became available earlier today. So that is close to $20 decrease in price in 1 day. Getting closer to gold. Resisting the urge to buy one but with the high pricing and other 28nm video cards soon to be released I have to pass.

My guess is the ones that have the highest margin for them.

I called NE earlier today on the stock of the MSI card and they had close to 70 of them. 70 cards isn't alot of stock IMO.

I would have thought it would have sold out right away. I think those people that can spend this kind of money would rather just pay more and get the HD7970.

Hopefully the price comes way down soon or there is some type of coupon. I would buy a HD7950 right now if the price was $399.00

Doesn't seem like it to me.

When I bought my 2500k from Mirco Center they had around 450 2500ks in stock.

2500k costs half that of a 7950 and a CPU like the 2500k sells in much higher volume than $450-$600 video cards, especially at Microcenter since they offer big discounts when you purchase CPU and Motherboard combos.
