My current cooler is the cooler master hyper t4. Idle temps is 36c. I decided to test the cooler with prime95....

Core 0: min: 36c MAx 99c
Core 1: min: 35c Max 91c
Core 2: min: 35c Max: 98c
Core 3: min: 36c Max 94C

Obviously this cooler master hyper t4 isn't cutting it. The 7700K is completely stock settings. What cooler should I get? Current case is NZXT S340 Black and I added in 2 of these for the front air intake. http://www.microcenter.com/product/...ydro_Dynamic_Bearing_140mm_Silent_Cooling_Fan

Well I'm assuming your using the newest p95 with avx so it will be hot!

The H7 @ $28 is a nice cooler if you dont plan to OC too much, next step is prob the Thermalright true spirit direct 140 for $40

do yourself a favor and check the vcore when loaded with HWinfo64 to make sure the auto voltage is not set high

VID gets up to 1.319v

I played fallout 4 vr for an hour to test the cpu and after closing the game I seen the temps hit 87c on two of the cores from that game.

vid should be what the cpu is requesting, vcore should be actual and normally higher

seems like the stock vcore is too high, you should be closer to 1.2v, my board does this also. on some boards enabling xmp memory profile or MCE(Multi core enhancement/all core turbo) causes high vcore , are you using xmp or MCE?

basically either one of the settings are causing stock vcore too high causing high temps. You can try to find out which one or you may have to run an negative offset vcore to get it where it should be.

I cant for the life of me understand how many z170/z270/z370 boards have junk bios/normal vcore and people are ok with it. Its half the reason people say the 7700k runs hot

Yes, im using xmp for my corsair vengenace 3000 ram.
just for a quick test, turn it off and run the test you did before and see if temps drop and vid is lower. Memory speed will be lower but this doesnt change temps or vcore.

If it makes it better you will have to manually set the ram

what board do you have btw?

are you using LLC? Load Line Calibration? this will cause high vcore also

I just tried manual dram settings with CPU agent @ 1.2v, CPU VCCIO @ 1.2 and same effect. I will try what you said. btw. it's asus strix 270E.

Okay, set bios back to 100% stock with xmp disabled and temps fell by 5C-6c across each core.

Welcome to [H]! Now to be truly [H] you gotta do the best thing to lower temps: delid, apply TIM and relid.

You won't need a better cooler and your load temps will fall by 10 deg, more with a better cooler if you choose to go that way.

I did that with my 3570K, after it was a year old, lol. I just built this VR gaming rig. Not sure I want to delid it right now.

What is the vid or vcore now?

Trying to figure out if it lowered from less vcore or if you had MCE enabled

You shouldn't need system agent or vccio voltage other than stock which is .960v/1.060v. You only need this clost to 1.2v if your OC'ing memory past 3200mhz

I actually did my delid with an old school razor blade so you won't need https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WVYL61Q/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= . Yes there is a very small risk of slicing the die (or yourself), but I have delidded my 3770k and 7700k using a razor blade. The die itself is pretty far from the heatspreader except at two points. As long as you're careful at those two points, the risk is near 0.

well mine too, but its usually not that bad or have to do it that often. It was well worth it.

Yeah. I had to rig up a box fan with a 20x20 filter to help with the dust. I have been told the stuff under my carpet is so old it has turned to dust. I'm def not replacing carpet in a leased house. I may bite the bullet and buy a house but it would totally suck if my duty station got moved again.

If you are going to delid your CPU, I would definately, definately recommend the RockitCool delid kit/relid kit.
I bought one directly off their website for 39 bucks.
I've delidded 4 cpus now with no issues.
The best part about the RockitCool kit is it has a relid dye and clamp, so relid is simple, not messy and very safe.
I used the RTV high temperature sealant to reseal the IHS after I applied the Liquid metal ultra from Cool labs.
Using the RockitCool kit you only need to lay down a thin bead of sealant, I can barely see it from the outside and it's stuck like cement.

My 7600K dropped 10C in Prime 95 and my son's 8600K dropped 12C.

I do use a custom water loop though, so my CPUs never go much over 45-50C at full load.

My son's computer has a Corsair AIO.

I've got 3 box fans with filters running, they work well.

I did the razor blade delid on the only CPU I've delided , an old opteron and if I did again would get the rockit kit
