6800GT Temperature HELP!!

At stock speed with my side panel on and 1 120MM and 5 80MM fans, my 6800GT runs in the upper 80’s under load (I tested it with a desktop 3D bench so I could monitor temps while the 3D app was running). Overclocked to 400Mhz core, and with a fan blowing on the open computer (took the side panel off) I am about 89C max. Are these temps too high? I noticed that the max temp in the drivers is 135C, but I really don’t think that can be healthy. So, what is the maximum temp I should be getting if I want my card to last for around 2 years?
 
Those temperatures don't sound dangerous to me. When I was running my 6800GT with the stock cooler I measured a load temp of 87*C (system temperature was 30*C) under heavy load. Two things helped lower that temperature - the first was to remove the PCI slot cover just below the AGP card (which lowered the load temp to 80*C). The second thing was to give-up and watercool the damned thing (which lowered the load temp to 48*C). :p
 
make sure your fans are going in the right direction... front and side fans generally blow IN. Rear and top fans generally blow OUT. Those temps are high, but I have seen higher. none the less, you should also consider getting a vantec slot cooler or /something/...

Those temps aren't out of the ordinary. What brand is your card? If you have a crappy stock hs/f, consider getting an NV5. That will lower temps a bit, but if you're serious about keeping the card cool, you have to move to water. When I water cooled my 6800gt, my load temps were reduced by almost 30c.
 
Well - I guess we should determine if it's the case which is heating up internally or not... granted the NV5 blows the heat out, but if the case is not shedding heat right, adding a new HSF to the card will likely not help much... There could be a dead spot, where the air does not move a lot, near or around the card...

Mine just has a 80mm in and 80mm out and the card hits mid 80's on a good session. Nothing to really worry about.
 
Here is my computer with no additional fans. The two in back are both blowing in, and there is one in front of the hard drives (plus the two in the PSU). The side window has a 120MM, but I don’t like to leave the side on.

For some reason one of the fans made a strange noise when it was up-side-down in the top, so I simply set it beneath the video card where a pocket of hot air seems to collect. With the fan blowing the hot air out of the open case, I was able to drop temps on the card by a few degrees.

However, I got the best results with the large fan blowing into the case (I removed the small fan from beneath the card so the two airflows would not conflict). Despite the fact that it is bellowing into the case, it manages to move soooo much air (it is a really powerful fan) that I got the best temps on both my video card and my processor. Plus the RAM seems to run cooler.

BTW, the PSU is 550W, OCZ Platinum rev2, and a 3200Venice. Oh yhea, and the little red guy is my computer security guard.
 
The temps they were getting sound really great. Unfortunately, I eventually plan on upgrading to an SLI system. I could be wrong, but it looks like that heatsink is just a little bit too large for it to fit. Keep in mind that my DFI only has one PCI express 1X slot between the two 16X graphics slots. Eventually I plan on upgrading to a nice water cooling system, but don’t have the money to get a really nice one right now.

In general though, I get the impression that 90C is an acceptable load temperature that will not shorten the lifespan of my card. So, for the time being, I think my uber-ghetto fan cooling system should work for me.
 
I'm having temp problems with my 6800 GT as well. The display tab is showing the temp idling, yes IDLING, at 79-80, 110-120 loaded (CPU is around 30C, 32-33 under load). This is with the NV-68 block on there (which has been reseated a few times with new, clean apps of Ceramique). EVGA was a bit concerned, so they're having me RMA the card. The temps explain the lockups and crashes I've been having, though.

So do they know you voided the warranty or did you leave the whole..I stuck a waterblock on it thing out?
