Hi, can someone test for me how a GeForce6800 normal / GT / Ultra runs at 800x600 with 16xAA? I believe it's running 4xMSAA and 4xSSAA. Is performance similar to 1600x1200 with 4xAA (MSAA)?

I'm trying to find out if it's the end-it-all card for my display. It cannot natively display high resolutions.

I notice Doom3 has an option of 16xAA. Can someone please do a timedemo with 16xAA and 800x600 resolution? I would appreciate it very much. :)

It looks good...

It performs much worse than 1600 x 1200 with no AA.

Only 33.7 FPS on the built in DOOM 3 timedemo second time through

Oh incase it make much difference it was set from the doom 3 advanced options not the NV control panel

Great, thank you very much. You are running a 6800GT, was it stock clock? I guess I can add 18% to your fps, when I run 848x480. That should put me about 40 fps. :)

Have you tried other games at 800x600x16aa? How is for instance Far Cry or Unreal Tournament 2004?

I will go try far cry in a minute and then report back.

Played D3 like that for a while and there was no stuttering at all it was definately very playable that was at stock 370/1000 clocks

Runs pretty good was only running 8x AA as that is highest the 61.77 control panel allows and far cry only says low mid high for AA and I don't know what those relate to and 4xAF from the Far cry control panel.

gack that's 8xaa? Looks like jaggies galore. Guess Higher resolution is something I've taken for granted. I like 1280x1024 with 4xaa!

it does look nice. I prefer 1600x1200 Ultra 16xaf and no AA better, but 800x600 16xaa is very playable.

here's my timedemo scores @ 400/1100 with 65.62:

800x600 16xaa 16xaf Ultra 36.5fps
800x600 16xaa 16xaf High 37.9fps
1024x768 8xaa 16xaf Ultra 28.2fps
1024x768 8xaa 16xaf High 29.1fps

IMO, 16xaa doesn't bring enough quality improvement over 8xaa to justify the performance hit.

When AA isn't available it is disabled. I don't think 8xAA is enabled on his shots. Here's how 4xAA looks on mine:

I think I prefer 16x12 no AA over that. And considering my system can do 2xAA easily [4xAA is pushing it without SM3] it's an easy decision.

With my system I can add 2xaa to 12x10 or 16x12 with basically the same fps, give or take a few. I'm very impressed with doom3 on a 6800 series....I'm hoping HL2 will be in the ballpark. :)

so do i. i just posted to show that 8x wasn't enabled.

Very nice, I appreciate the effort. How is performance in Far Cry with lots of AA?
