6800 Ultra problem. or Driver?

Hi Guys and Gals, I need some help. I have a eVGA 6800 Ultra, and recently I have had random incidents where the screen goes out, kinda tweaks, scrambles almost, with lots of squares all over the screen........the best I can describe it. The only way to get rid of this is to restart. Is their any way to determine if it is the card...or the driver...or the OS? Thanks ahead for any help you can offer.
 
lol.. i had this when i forgot to connect both the molex connectors... it's your weak powersupply....or something's loose, but i am sure it's your psu..
 
I have had the EXACT same problem when I have flashed my 6800GT to a 6800Ultra and OCed it. Basically I have a few theories:

First, it is a problem with the video card HARDWARE, not software. I know this is true.

Second, it is happening b/c you are OCing the card. Are you running the card @ 450 core(3D) 24/7?

The most likely reason it is happening is that the card is drawing more power that it is being provided with. A more powerful PSU may fix the problem, but it may not. You might end up simply having to down you clock speeds a little.
 
I have a X connect Ultra 500 Wat PSU, with 12V stable on the plus 12 line........This should be more than enough juice. NO overclocking at all right now......all stock. Thanks for the help so far.
 
then check if somehting is loose.. and i have heard alot of things about ultra-x becoming defective after a while...

Shite :eek: Really? It is only a month old......but I will keep an eye on it. I already checked the connections, and everything seems in order. Thanks though.
 
my g6800 ultra was reseting just a few minutes back, i changed bios a bit now everything is working fine, and 3dmark 2003/2005 score went up to. i changed memory from 266 to 400mhz, read the manual last page explains it better.
oh don't set aperture to 4mb it slows everything down, 256mb is what i put.
 
Well, I think it may be a driver issue, since I went from a ATI X800XT to this card, and have not done a clean install. I am going to do a clean install on this and wait and see....if not, I will try another PSU and see what happens.......I really like this PSU for how clean it is.....and I did alot of research before I bought it....I even asked the eVGA guys about them, and they said they were great.....oh well. Thanks for the info guys.
