6800 OC General Question

I am simply slight curious as to why more people buy the 6800GT than the 6800. I can see the initial Stock difference in most 6800's are 128MB. Yet you can get 256 versions still cheaper than their 6800GT Counterparts. I also understand that people buy the GT to OC it to Ultra speeds. But, couldnt you OC a 6800 to Ultra Speeds as well and still be safe/stable. After all after you can unlock the hidden pipelines and get the full 16 it pretty mcuh matches up with its big-brother counterparts. After that cant you just OC it to match the speeds of an Ultra? I dunno, I am just curious so their is no need for name calling and flames. :rolleyes: I had some diffuculty locating a nice comparison chart between the two and all I found was this silly site http://www.pantherproducts.co.uk/Articles/Graphics/GFX_Comparison_II.shtml. So, if I missing large parts of the eqaution let me know. Just seems like the 6800Ultra/GT have more memory and are clocked higher...
 
More people buy the 6800GT because its a far superior card. Any benchmark will tell you that, not to mention it has 16 (working) pipes.
 
The GT runs DDR3, instead of DDR. This = faster memory. Also, unlocking the pipes on the 6800nu is not as workable as most would have you believe. The GT is worth the extra money.
 
you are never guaranteed to unlock all 16 pipelines, sometimes some are broken, so they make it a 6800 non ultra with 12 working pipes, so enabling the broken ones causes problems etc...

with a 6800GT you know for sure you are getting a 16 pipeline card that will usually OC to Ultra speeds with ease

plus the 6800GT's use GDDR3 with lower ns memory than the 6800 non ultras, hence a higher oc

plus they come standard with 256MB of ram

As a Sidenote: I own a 6800NU and I am very pleased with the performance (stock) that I am getting out of it. I am easily pleased.
