6800 gt temp

i just added a sound card to my pc .. it sits right below my video card .

is my 6800 gt getting to hot .. whats the norm for its temp

what is consider to hot and will damage the card

before the sound card my idle temps where around 35 - 40 ambient and 52 ish core

now idle ambient is 52ish and core is 62ish
and when playing bf2 with an overclock of 365/1020 .. which is pretty wimpy

i get a temp of ambient of 69 and core of 82 ish ..

i guess i wont be overclocking my video card ....
 
Your temperatures do seem a tad high based on your stated previous and my 6800GT temps. I assume you are using the stock cooler. I believe that you have answered your own question with reqards to the cause and ultimate solution. Specifically your must rework your PCI card configuration and focus on moving cool air around the 6800GT.

No it is not too hot, but it is getting up there. Prior to upgrading to the VF700, I was at 78 core under full load.

Wow, the 80s during load is high. I would try to leave some room next to the 6800gt so that there is air circulation. Also, if you don't have a side panel fan, it is worthwhile to install one if you can. A side panel fan that is blowing cool air right onto the video card really helps.
 
I asked this same question a while ago and someone told me that you don't have to worry about it until it gets over 90.
