6800 GT Cooling

I don't know if that cooler will work well with the 6800GT, but there are plenty of other options. I just ordered a NV Silencer 5 for my 6800 Ultra. The stock heatsink is too damn loud.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use the Zalman ZM80D-HP (http://www.zalmanusa.com/usa/product/view.asp?idx=138&code=013) with a Geforce 6800 GT? If so would it be practical? I've got a feeling that little fan on the stock heatsink isn't doing that much. ;)

Yes it will fit on a 6800 series card, but not with the configuration that is suggested in the instal manual. I did come up with a good configuration that works, with either 2 arms holding the core and rear slugs or a 4 arm configuration that I like much better.

Two arm per side config: http://snipershide.free-universe.com/remotes/zalman_zm80d-hp/zalman_layout/

Four arm per side config: http://snipershide.free-universe.com/remotes/zalman_zm80d-hp/zalman_layout_2/

Edit: overall from the highest stock cooling temp I recorded of 84 C, to highest Zalman with Shin Estu on the core, temp I can push it to is 66 C, thats an 18 C temp drop after letting it settle over the last few weeks.

Thats pushing it with the rthdrbl demo.
