I just put it on my machine, the original clocks were 500/900, and I just clicked "detect optimal settings" and it changed it to 550/1000, that's a pretty hefty overclock in my eyes, and was wondering how to reset it back if it doesn't work out right, or where I can get a program to test my gpu and tempertures

It's an overclock of 50mhz on the core and 0mhz on the memory. It's not that hefty.

If you want to put it back for whatever reason, then go back to coolbits and select "No Overclocking" radio button and apply.

ok, I thought it was a big boost, lol since i'm not that much of an over clocker

Well the card defaults the memory to 900mhz, but theres a 99% chance that the memory is rated for 1ghz, as most DDR3 nowadays is. Still, your fillrate was increased by 10%, which is really nice for DirectX9 games. Dont be ashamed of it, haha. You need all the MHz you can get on the GPU to make up for 8 pipes. Try to push your memory further. Like, try 1.1ghz or 1.05.

What about aftermarket cooling? should I look to upgrade to the NV5 possibly if i'm gonna push it that far

is it agp, it hasta be for the stock 900mhz ram. check out the stasis icestorm, its the only core and mem cooling 6600gt AGP cooler out there. pm consumer9000 or go to www.stasisthermal.com for info about it

Actually, it's the NV6 Rev2 and it only fits PCI-E cards. Most people I know use the Zalman VF700Cu(Al) which works great. I know because I used to have it on my card before going watercooling. On stock cooling you should be able to do 550/1100 no problem. What brand is your card?? Good Luck!!
