6600 or 6800LE

The 6600 is using:

8 pipes
128-bit memory
550mhz memory speed
300mhz core


The 6800LE has:

8 pipes
256-bit memory
700mhz memory speed
300mhz core

Because of the 256-bit memory and the higher clocked memory the 6800 has the advantage here, right? Am I missing anything? The price difference is not very big.
 
Is the XFX 6800 any good ?

How come the ram sinks arent covered ? :confused:
 
How much of a difference are the extra 4 pipes going to make? This is what I’m trying to find out here. The 6600 is 10-15 bucks less, but the memory is far slower. That is a big difference.

The 6800 and the 6800LE are $30 apart, but the only difference is the 4 extra pipes. Is that going to be a major performance increase? :confused:
 
Id count out the 6600 cause of the 64 bit, but when comparing the 6800LE and 6800 theres definitely a difference, and also you have chances to unlock either one, the LE to 12 pipes and the other one to 16!

It depends on your budget, if you can stick out for the extra 30$ easily get the 6800.

No. The LE can unlock all 16 pipes as well.

Of course, neither an LE or a nu will ALWAYS unlock EVERYTHING.

4 extra pipes makes a BIG difference.
As an example ... before the unlock my 6800nu toped out around 9,800 in 3dMark2003.
After opening the remining 4 pipes (16 total) I get about 11,300 at the same clock speeds.

That's good to know. I don't want to spend too much though because like I said this is my little bitch system :p and is only P4 1.6 @ 2.1Ghz. So it can't handle alot of GPU power. ;)

That being said I think the regular 6800 is sounding pretty good right now. :D
 
What makes you think your P4 won't be able to handle it? I have a 1.4ghz Athlon running
2.4ghz in an older nForce2 system. No issues at all. :)

Your PSU may be another matter as these cards require a fair amount of power. A good
+12v rail is essential.

After reading that thread it seems your older 4x board may be the biggest factor.
I am the first one to admit that I have little experience with Intel systems.

I noticed you quoted the "recommended" hardware requirements for those games. Maybe your system
still falls within the minimum requirements? Just reaching here.
 
Wow that system will definitely hold it back, I know I tried a 9800 Pro in a P4 1.7 and it ran like shit :(.
