6600, 6800, which?

I've decided to get a 6600 or a 6800... (AGP)

And I don't want to spend over $300. What would you choose? Which card from those 2 series'?

(AGP, remember... under $300)

Please don't say 6800 LE - Mine just arrived and I'm returning this. It's a slow POS; possibly defective tho.
 
For AGP, the 6800. For some reason the AGP 6600 GT is $50 more than the PCI-e version. For PCI-e, I'd get a 6600 GT in that price range.
 
definitely 6800 vanilla as the others said -- it performs about the same as the 6600GT at stock, but you get to play the pipeline lottery with good chances of success.
 
Wow, thanks everyone. Fits my needs, and even comes with a $40 rebate if I send them my old Ti 4200.

Only question is, "How many pixel pipes?"

Superlative, is that what you meant by the pipeline lottery?
 
Err, ok, I just did my homework, and the BFG 6800 vanilla has only 8 pixel pipes, wheras the GT has 16. Of course there's $140 price difference, but lots of people from various forums were talking a load of smack about BFG's marketing tactics and radio-silence about the pixel pipes on the vanilla 6800. It's basically a 6800 LE (which is garbage) for about the same price. At least they're fair in that respect, while tricking people into thinking they're getting a faster card for a lesser price, when really they're getting exactly what they're paying for: a slow card that pretends to be a "true" 6800.

Thanks peeps regardless - I know no harm was intended. Technically with that card you get what you pay for... But I must look elsewhere. I may have to fork out another $140 to get a $420 6800 GT (with 16 pixel pipes). TY regardless. :)

are you talking about the BFG 6800OC here? I have one and it has -only- 12 pipes.. unfortunately, my other 4 do not want to unlock *sniff* maybe i can exchange this.
 
Oh, ok. I've heard mixed things about how many pixel pipes it has.

I emailed BFG and they'll reply. Anyway, enjoy your massive framerates. I accidently ordered a 6800 LE with 8 pixel pipes, and it arrived and sucked almost to the point of my old Ti 4200. It can't even run old nVidia demos intended for 5700 cards. Pretty sure it's defective tho... got one bluescreen error, and very sucky FPS all around.
 
don't forget as u bump higher resolutions in ur games. the 6800 NU kills the 6600 GT at higher resolutions.
 
Does the BFG have the pipes unlocked for you, or is it just overclocked? I'm going to be getting a 6800NU, but I'm trying to decide if I should go with the BFG or another brand... If the pipes are still locked with the BFG, is it safer or less safe to mess around with it?
