60hz problem with vista

i just installed vista and half life 2. I tried locking the refresh rate to 85hz in CCC, but no go, it defaults to 60hz. reminds me of when I first installed win xp. is this a known issue and/or is there a workaround?
 
if im using the DVI adapter? i don't really have a choice since my card only has dvi ports. im running 85hz in windows, so i know there is a workaround
