60 htz buzz/hum

OK, when I hook up my computer to my 5.1 surround system, i'm geting a nasty little 60 htz buz/hum.

My motherboard is a Abit N7S2G with the nVidia Soundstorm. I'm using a Yamaha reciever with Paradigm speakers

Any idea's solutions?
 
i could be quite wrong but i think a 60hz buzz is power/ground related.
 
What you are experiencing is commonly referred to as a ground loop.
Do you have a cable TV input connected to this system anywhere?
 
Consider getting an ac noise filter. i have a nice industrial ac noise filter that works wonders on my setup. You can find nice used ones on ebay for less than $100. Ive heard of monster selling a few, but Ive been pretty good at staying away from monster...i think most of their products are rather crappy...and the ones that arent, are grossly overpriced.

Yep and i disconnected it and almost all of the hum went away.

Any idea's how do fix this without spending over 100 bucks on ebay? Is this something that the cable company can fix?
 
It's a common problem.
The cable companies "true ground" and your home's "true ground" are different and because of this you get current flowing across the two grounds (which causes the hum).
How do you fix it for cheap?
Easy. Take one of theses 75 ohm to 300 ohm matching transformers and one of these 300 ohm to 75 ohm transformers and connect them up back to back between the receiver and the TV cable. The downside to this approach is you loooooose some resolution but you may not even notice it. ;)
