it seems like out of nowhere my cpu has been pushing over 60 degrees idle - i found out the semi-hard way last night when i came home and heard a long continuous beep from the speaker that kept alternating high/low pitches (i have an epox 8k5a2 if that matters)

my cpu fan is also a lot louder than it should be

is my cpu/cooling system fucked? should i go get a new one?

also - any insight as to what might have caused it? i havent made any changes at all when i heard it - could it just be natural wear and tear?

Can you give us some relevent info?

CPU type/speed
HSF
Case
Cooling
What was it before
Is it still stable
How are you measuring this
Did you do anything to the system

1900+ athlon xp
stock heatsink and fan
some evercase case (or something similar)
im measuring it through the bios setup
before it would be about 45-50 - my idle temps now were the load temps back then

Any dust on your HSF? That's the only thing I can think of *makes dumb face*
