I just read the review of that MediaDesk 2.1 and was very impressed...until I saw the price. There's no way in Hell I'm dropping $599 on computer speakers! I'm perfectly happy with my audio junk, $120 Klipsch speaker set.

Who says I don't do both???? As someone in a movie once said, "assumptions are the mother of all fuck-ups." I use $80 body wash too, will you find fault with that?
 
I don't consider $599 a good price for speakers, you could build a full computer for that price. Klipsch I bet would be more then enough.

Agreed. $599 is a fair price for home theater speakers, or a top-of-the-line center channel or subwoofer. I have no need/desire for ultra-hi-end audiophile speakers for my PC. :rolleyes:

Hey wait until you get into the world of the audio-insane, where something as simple as a subwoofer invloves ripping out the floor of the listneing room to layout 65 ft of tapered folding ducts, 18 subwoofers, and enough amplification to cause an entire district to brownout when you start clipping.

Yes I exaggerated about the amp...but some guy really did do this to his listening room...it's somewhere on yahoo.

hah, that's pretty extreme audiophiling. Visit head-fi forums, and it would just be everyday news =).
 
It's all priorities. Some people can't justify 100$ for speakers, but would spend 3000$ on a computer. Other people would buy a used car... I went for the speakers myself :D

Re: the IB: For whatever reason, somebody posts that on head-fi every two weeks or so it seems.. despite the fact it has nothing to do with headphones :rolleyes:

No, at least not two pairs. If I could drop $600 on speakers, I'd just keep saving (and saving, and saving) so I can build a ProTools setup with some sweet monitors.

I see alot of mention of monitor speakers but they always seem to be these little self-amplified thingies. does anyone use "real" monitors anymore? I still have a set of 4311's and IMHO you would be hard pressed to find something that offers as much detail in a 45lb speaker.
