5820k game crashes?

I can't seem to get an OC to work. I've tried 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2.

I'm using a Corsair h100i and temps are always below 50c even under load.

GTA V crashes after 10 minutes, same with BF4. The crash usually kills the game and sends me to the desktop, or sends me to a black screen. I can hear the windows noises, but screen never comes up and I have to hard boot.

Tried vcores of 1.3 and 1.4v, no dice. Bclck as low as 100, cpu cache as low as 29.

Granted, I haven't tried any of the games at stock settings yet. But I find it odd that the temps are perfectly fine (corsair link and realtemp matching temps), but games are crashing?

I figured an unstable OC would cause the entire computer to crash...

Crashes at stock settings, so definitely not related to the OC.

Whelp, looks like it's back to Microcenter to return everything and shoot for a 6700k build instead.

Dang, I've unfortunately pinpointed my problem.

I was running a supplemental power supply (in my sig, FSP Booster X5). I got this thing to power a 560gtx sli I was running years ago.

It worked fine on my i7 950 setup I was running with this current 980ti.

I thought this new 5820k setup was causing the crashes, but when I ran a GPU stress test with GpuTest geeks3d I got INSTANT crashes to a black screen. This rules out any CPU issues especially at stock CPU clocks on a h100i at 25c.

I was at my wits end and my last test was to run my 980ti hooked up to my antec 650w. I was reluctant to do this because the recommended PSU for this mobo is 600w.

Lo and behold I fire up geeks3d stress test at 4k resolution with 8x AA and no crashes. GPU hit 80c but stayed strong. Even at 1440p resolution with 0 AA it would crash when running on the supplemental PSU.

So to push the boundaries, I fired up the geeks3d stress test at 1440p and 8x AA, AND I ran prime95 at the same time. No crashes!

So it looks like my beloved FSP Booster X5 has bit the dust! That's crazy. I have no idea why this thing worked so well on my i7 setup, but can't handle this new setup. There's literally nothing else the x5 has to power that's different!

But now I'm worried about my 650w Antec. Should I try a new supplemental PSU to relieve stress on the antec? Or should I just shoot for a 800+w PSU now?

I'm gonna have to sleep on this one, I'm pretty burned out from doing these fucking tests for over an hour.

Are those supplemental power supplies still being sold? I can't find them anywhere
