my buddy is doing an upgrade, he has a 1.5 yr old antec earthwatts 500w psu. Hes looking at getting a 5770. Is that enough? Cpu would be an e6750 oc'd to 3.2g or an amd x3 720.
4 x 1 gb of ram @ 800mhz, 2 hd's.

TIA.

of course thats enough. that entire pc with a 5770 would not even use but around 200-220 watts under full load.

watts isnt the whole picture cannondale06, as you well know its also dependent on the amps on teh 12v rail for the gpu. The gpu specs say minimum 450w psu but dont say the minimum amps necessary.

you said he had a 500 watt earthwatts psu. that psu has WAY MORE than enough 12v amps to run a 5770 with any realistic set up. unless he upgrades to on overclocked i7 and adds 15 more hard drives he will not have a prob.

ok thanks man! There are other gpu's that state a min wattage as well as a minimum 12v amp rating. Thats what I was trying to determine but it sounds like hes good to go.
