hi guys....i am not sure if this is the right place for posting this but had no other choice and was reading 2 weeks ago about plasma and projection in this forum but could not recall the thread.

however, my cousin bought Zenith projection HDTV (model R57W46) 3 days ago, I was telling him that he needs to calibrate it in order to get the best results.

Anybody can advice whether any calibration is needed for this projection? if yes is it possible to do it ourselves or we need pro ppl to do it?

if it needs pro ppl then please recommend to whom we need to contact to get the calibration done.

oh yeah, he lives in san diego.

your help is highly appreciated.

If you got the cash to burn, it'll be easier to have a professional do it. but if you're willing to dedicate some time into it - you can do it yourself with the help of various tools.

One that I would recommend is AVIA Calibration DVD's. It costs approximately $50

most calibration on projection tv's is done via the convergence feature on the tv itself, what this does is makes it so all of the colors display in the proper area of the screen (i.e. so you dont get a blue shadow in a all white area) most newer projection tv's automatically so this for you but some still require you to do this, check your manual :) Also like the post above mentioned, it is good to invest in a calibration dvd to fine tune some of the settings.

thank you guys for your replies

he told me that there is automatic adjustment but i am not sure how accurate is this, so as long as he has this feature he does not have to have a pro person or dvd to calibrate it for him? if yes then thats cool.

otherwise, is the dvd enough for calibrating? or we need other tools as well

and by the way, what does the calibrating do for projections? what you need to calibrate exactly?
sorry for asking but i am very ignorant in this area

thank you again

its best to have a pro come out & physcially adjust it. the convergence helps, but not to the extent of doing it right. remember, these tvs are shipped across the ocean, then put on trucks to wharehouse & then eventually shipped to your house. all that movement causes the alignment to get out of whack.
