512Mb X800 XT?

Hi all,

I'm UK based and have had an X800 XT PE on order for nearly a month now, and still there's no definite idea of when it will arrive. I have heard dates ranging from the start of August to mid October until ATI get over problems with supplies of the memory chips.

A couple or three questions:
1. Does anyone have more info on when these cards will start trickling through to non-OEM buyers?
2. If it ends up being mid-October (I can wait....reluctantly), what are the chances of ATI shoving out a 512Mb card 2 weeks after 256Mb card production ramps up (I have fallen foul of buying a graphics card mere weeks before a new generation arrived in the past)?
3. I have never bought an ATI card before. Does anyone else share my disappointment at the lack of infomation on their web site about supply problems? (I must add that I haven't looked there for a week or two, something may have appeared since).

Apologies if this has been posted many times - I have had a look and not seen anything.

Cheers.

As of now 512mb would be just for playing high-end games with ultra high res/effects, such as Doom 3's "Ultra" mode. Really for now it will make a very small diffrence since "High" and "Ultra" are nearly indiffrent. The only ptoject in the near future that I can see needing 512 will be Unreal 3, and only god knows when thats coming out.

So in conslusion, don't worry, 256mb will be plenty.
