Need some suggestions. I was looking at upgrading to maybe Buldozer or Sandy bridge and 8gb DDR3-1600 MHz OR an I7-950 if the price goes down enough.

Must be an Asus motherboard board.

Also have plans for a GTX 480 or GTX 570 later on.

Right now I have a Q6600 8gb DDR2 800 MHz Asus P5Q-E MoBo

You may want to grab the RAM now, as it could go up in price in about a month or so:

$110 - G.Skill Ripjaws 2x4GB DDR3 1600 CL9 1.5V dual channel kit

Don't expect the prices of Intel's Socket 1156 and 1366 processors to go down with the arrival of Sandy Bridge. Intel has a long history of keeping the prices of its older parts static in order to encourage people to buy its newer parts.

If you can't wait that long, one of these two combos would be good enough for your needs:

$273 - AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition + Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 combo
$329 - AMD Phenom II X6 1055T + Asus M4A89TD PRO/USB3 combo

As a caveat, those combo deals expire at the end of the month/year.
