I have a creative audigy platinum ex. I have a toslink mini to toslink digital optical cable. I want to plug it into the digital input on my 5.1 receiver, the mini end in the creative's digital out.

I understand that this hook up will not give me 5.1 sound with mp3's and other stereo sources.

But will it give me 5.1 sound in games that have 5.1, for example half life 2?

Or does that hook up only provide 5.1 sound when a dvd is playing?
