I got a 4U case from a place that I intermittently work at in exchange for helping the boss fix a specific computer.. anyway, it has a dual 250W PSU in it, which isn't quite standard ATX form-factor. The PSU is a bit bigger, but not any bigger than the larger PSUs of today (width/height anyway, it is a bit deeper), but the screw holes on the back aren't there. Instead, it has screw holes on the sides that brackets screw into, and the brackets are L-shaped so that the other side screws into the case. There are no alternative mount points for the brackets inside the case, but there are some random unused screw holes. From my research (looking at pictures of cases on eBay for lack of info on old ATX server cases, heh) there's usually a metal panel that adapts the case to and from this configuration and ATX standard (and I imagine that's what the random screw holes are for).
Does anybody know what this panel is called? Does anybody have one?
I ask because I wanted to mount my modern gaming box in this (badass IMO) case. I ghetto-mounted the PSU in there and put the mobo in, plugged everything in... When I tried to insert cards, I realized that the PCIe slot and the case slot back area didn't line up quite right, and the VGA port on my video card (card has VGA/HDMI/DVI, covers whole bracket) was unusable due to proximity to part of the case.
I'm wondering if there was some sort of different (or lack thereof) standard back then for cards and their connectors - is it only more recently that cards with connectors along the whole bracket surfaced (I know there were cards like the original CGA, with two connectors, but they were at the 1/3 and 2/3 positions)?
Just wanted to learn about this since if I had known in advance Id've not had to disassemble, reassemble, disassemble, and then reassemble my PC to find out.
