4th hard drive failure..

did i hook up the power incorrectly? wtf is wrong w/ this shit. i don't understand how i can go through 4 hard drives and have all of them fail (the last 3) within 1 month of having them. the hard drive temperature reads no higher than 48 deg and is usually around 42 ish.

my raw read error rate is really low... according to hard drive inspector 57%

does this have to do w/ my resolution 1680x1050 ? (i have an ATI x800GTO though) or using programs like limewire (experience freezeups w/ this or any 'intense' application)
 
I would point my finger at a flaky power supply. What type are you running? You might want to get a voltmeter and test it to see if it's giving bad voltages.
 
Yep, those are the two things: power and cooling. If you're LANing your machine, that could also be a problem; shocks can be problematic too.

However, the hard drive software temp monitoring can be wildly inaccurate. Describe your cooling setup, and touch the drive with a finger.

 
I had this issue with a SATA drive - or rather thought I had this issue - until I discovered it was a bad SATA cable! (after I had shelled out £90 for new power supply)
 
Or at least made them act faulty; if there was a faulty wire in it it could cause problems. Also look at your wiring scheme; EMI could potentially cause problems.

 
Replaced drive still same issue - but after replacing cable, problem went away fortunatly was a drive in a RAID 1 array so no data lost. Original drive also still fine on another channel (with new cable of course!)
