Hey guys, I just installed 4gb more of ram in my system today, boots up fine and runs great but I have one problem.

The sound card I am running is an Xfi Xtrememusic, with 4gb installed and running vista, when windows load up, theres a LOUD static sound coming from w/e I have plugged into the soundcard, I cant play anything either. Uninstalling drivers and reinstalling on the same boot fixes the static ( REALLY LOUD MAX VOLUME ) But on a reboot the static comes back? Works fine with 2gb of memory. System is in sig with latest drivers ;(

This is a known issue that Creative has not resolved or even addressed. Some experience static, some experience pops and crackling, while others just lose surround/EAX.

There's no fix that I'm aware of, but check out BIOS updates for your motherboard. Odds are that you're just plain out of luck, however.

If you're looking to get some sort of resolution, my guess is that you'll be making some angry phone calls/writing angry letters and so on to Creative. If they aren't willing to resolve the matter to your satisfaction, consider filing a complaint with the BBB and other consumer-protection agencies.

Yeah just found a big thread on it :( Took out 1 stick for 3gb and sound comes back.... sigh, guess I'll look into another sound card.... Thanks for the response.

Damn, I have an X-Fi XtremeMusic and plan on building a new PC with 4gb of ram at the end of July. Glad I came across this thread. Either Creative fixes it soon or I will be demanding a refund on the card and getting an X-Meridian.

Weird as it is, I ran into this for the first time when I was swapping out CPUs in my rig earlier today...it already had 4GB in it, and it was fine. I popped out my E6600, put in a Q6600, booted, and I got static every time it tried to play a sound...rebooted, checked the BIOS for any weird settings (I had to enable the second, third and fourth cores--nothing else overtly strange) and rebooted...and it's been fine ever since.

They are aware of it and said it will be fixed in the next driver release.

To the OP do you have XP x64? I think it's already been fixed on Vista x64.

They didn't specify for XP x64. Like I said, I believe it was fixed for Vista x64 users last driver release (not sure though).

Try moving the card to a different PCI slot and lower the PCI latency in your bios. Oh also make sure you have the latest bios for your motherboard, I know mine (a MSI board) just released a 4GB memory fix a few weeks ago.

Issue is not fixed on Vista x64

8GB and Q6600 = Loud popping and cracking so ever on both a 975x and a 680i.

Issue also makes video playback unplayable until you disable the soundcard.

Have you tried my suggestions in my previous post? Also does it work with only 2GB installed?

Yes tried those already, no go. Yes it does work with 2GB.

Ive dropped back to XP-32 until these issues are solved. I'm not getting rid of my Elite Pro to go with Vista

I am having the same issue. I'm now torn between taking out 2 gigs of ram or using the onboard sound on my 680I motherbaord.

I am running XP Pro 32bit, is there any work around for this?

Well you're on XP 32bit... its not going to use 4gb of memory anyways.. stick with 2gb till they release drivers :)

XP is reporting 3gb so its good for now. I think i fixed the issue, i uninstalled the NV network manager and it seems ok now.

go back to march sound driver set, thats how i fixed my loud static!

You got a link for that? I stopped using the betas from last year because they suck so bad.. using the latest one now with 3gb ram, cant find the march one :(

hi guys,

I had this same issue, running Vista Ultimate x64 with 4GB of RAM, along with a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty.

I was having very loud static upon boot, no matter what I was trying. After reading on here in aZn_plyR's post, who recommended the 2.13 drivers instead of the 2.15, and also reading it in several other forums I can say it works fine now.

Thanks a bunch for the tip man. I'm a happy camper now :D

Cheers,
