48xx Power Consumption

I was wondering if anyone noticed a trend with the power consumption of the 48xx series cards...that they are consume a lot more than nvidia.

I was wondering if there were any board partners that focused on power consumption. Is there a 4830 out there that is comparable in power consumption to say...a 9800GT?

Yeah any 4830 should do. The trend you're referring to is the fact that GT200 downclocks a lot more than HD 48xx at idle. But the 98xx series doesn't have this advantage so they're about even. The 4830 might even draw less power than the 9800GT.

Anandtech's review has the 4830 at well over the 9800GT in both load and idle, so which review do I believe?

Anandtech is the word of God.
Just a thought, it might be different driver versions. I know it took ATI a while to fix PowerPlay issues.

I can never replicate anandtech's benchmarks, so I rarely trust them anymore. I think the above link might be a better source

To me, the [H] benchmarks agree with anandtech's, at least relatively. I'm looking at the data from anandtech and [H] and I arrive at the same conclusion either way: nvidia has better performance/power consumption.

To me that benchmark shows that AMD's power consumption/performance ratio is far below nvidia, in load numbers. Look at the 4870 vs GTX280 OC, they are basically tied and the nvidia card is the clear performance winner.

The 4870 is 50 watts ahead of the GTX260, and depending on the game the cards are basically equal.

The 4850 is barely under the GTX260 and the nvidia card is the clear performance winner there.

They don't show older cards like the 8800GT / 9800GT. I think it would be nice if they included that more common video card for comparison instead of something as esoteric as 9800GX2 or as old as 8800GTX. I know the 8800GTX is still competitive but it has been on the market for a very long time.
