4870x2 problem

I have a visiontek 4870x2 and tried to install it but i couldn't get any picture through my monitor. Everything was hooked up and stufff but no picture. I tried DVI and HDMI, but nothing. WIth HDMI I just got a Blue screen and DVI a "No signal detected" But with my older 8800 GTX it worked fine. I don't think it's the video card, but maybe vista, because DVI doesn't seem to work either on my 8800 GTX ; I get no picture. I tried another LCD that works and got the same results.
 
did you delete all the "nvidia drivers" before installing the x2? also which drivers are you using? and if you did uninstall, did you make sure to run a driver cleaner / delete all other existing folders?
 
The X2 is "supposed" to give you a blank screen during driver install on Vista :p One of the many, many bugs it has...

As far as your GTX now not working also, you have to be REALLY thorough when removing the ati stuff. I had to use driver sweeper, reboot into safe mode and run it again, then remove it from device manager & reboot once more before Vista let go of it's death grip.

haha don't forget to go back into program files and delete whatever ATi folders that may still be there...I roughly have to 3 reboots short of a fresh OS install when messing around w/ ATi Drivers :p
 
Try with a VGA to DVI dongle and see if that works.
No DVI output with Vista and ATI cards is very widespread and they do not have a solution to this problem. I also have this issue and it seems pretty much foolish to use a 500$+ card with VGA.

I have installed ATI 3870 in Crossfire, 4870 in Crossfire and now 4870 X2 in Crossfire and have not seen a "blank screen" once. I have used WHQL drivers and a number of beta drivers, all on Vista Home Premium 64 bit and they have all installed clean as a whistle.

Every once and again the screen will flicker, just as it does when one installs nvidia drivers.

My X2 experience has been uncomplicated.

I moved from an 8800 GTX Triple-SLI set up to a 4870 X2 Crossfire and have had not one problem in the transition.

Yes, I swapped out motherboards to a Gigabyte X48, and in doing so did a fresh install of Vista.

If anything, the problem is most likely conflicts between nvidia and ATI drivers.
In that case uninstall program, then safe mode + drivercleaner.net times three or four, then load your drivers for the 4870.

Ok, now another problem; when i start up Warhammer online it just restarts my computer.
 
yea, I've almost had it with computer. I might just order from a botique if i can't get it to work.


Anopther funny thing; when i use the 6+2 pin it will post, but if I use the 8pin it won't, and it also seems to use more power and very noisy
 
that's really wierd...what 8 pin are you referring to? b/c I use the 6 pin (directly from the psu) and 1 6+2 connector and I ran it this way for both x2's
 
I believe he's referring to the extra cables you get in that little goodie bag. I considered trying that because I wasn't sure if the 6+2 thing coming out of the unit itself was a "real" 8pin or not.

You're not trying to plug the EPS12V 8pin in there are you? :D
 
well I did a complete vista reinstall and DL the ATI dirvers. Now i'm waiting to see if i get the same problem with the clean OS.
 
Ok, i think my computer hates my X2 and ATI. WHen i started up WAR I was getting artifacts really bad and such. So again i put back in my 8800GTX and loaded up WAR, no Artifacts or BSOD, or any other driver problem. And this is with a fresh install. AHHH
 
I RMA it; sending it back to newegg for another one to see if it's the problem. I think it is though.
 
everything runs fine with my old 8800gtx but no the X2. Could the PSU be faulty
 
I say it's your card, especially since the 8800 gtx runs fine and it's not like the gtx isn't a power hog in itself =P

Thanks. Yea I would also get that display error telling me the "drivers have messed up and fixed them self" when i would alt tab to check it was the nkvm or something like that error.
 
what kind of monitor? if you are using the same connections ie. dvi as your gtx and the gtx is working, I don't think the monitor can be the issue
 
benq g2400wd. I still get hicupps, but not artifacting. It worked fine on my last XP rig.
 
have you tried hooking up your pc to your bravia? not sure if it has dvi connector but I'm pretty sure it has a hdmi..so you can try a hdmi to dvi cable to test the card
 
I have a older 17" lcd, my bro has. But could a monitor really mess up VC and systems performance by a lot.

hmm, maybe try shooting DanD a pm, he's actually experienced issues where a high video card won't work w/ certain lcd's ie. having to use an analog connection w/ your expensive gpu
 
I had an 8800GTX that worked perfect.I got my 4870x2 and I got tons of issues including rebooting when launching a game and it WAS my PSU.

MY PSU is 1000w, and have no problem now with my 8800gtx now. I will see when I get my x2 back sometime next week.
 
I am having all sorts of problems with my 4870x2 in Crysis. Microstuttering all over the place, in both dx9 and dx10. Installing some more games right not to test further, but I can't seem to do anything to get Crysis to run like it should. I am running on 850w Thermaltake PSU. Powered dual 8800gtx cards and a 4870 just fine. Could it be a psu issue?
