Hey everyone. Well i know that the 4870 x2 scales between normal use and gaming by adjusting the clocks. And i know it determines game by use of 3D and by full screen mode. But i was wondering if it was possible for me to play a game at 750/900 while in windowed mode rather than the scaled back 507/500?

4870 x2 Windowed Mode

With my 4870X2 the card would ALWAYS drop to 2D clock speeds when running games in a window. This was extremely frustrating for me.
I was just ranting a little bit in another thread about how frustrating the 4870X2 was for me while just using ATI's Catalyst Control Center.

I would highly recommend installing ATI Tray Tools. It is a replacement for the CCC (though I think you can use them both if you want). Managing game profiles with ATI Tray Tools is soooooo much better and I can make it set a certain clock speed for a game and it will apply that clock speed whether the game is in full screen or window mode. So, that is the only way I found to get 3D speeds in window mode.
I put links in the other thread. You'll also need Ready Driver Plus if you have Vista 64.

Note that even if you can get the 2d clocks back up to their 3d counterparts in windowed mode there is no way to enable the 2nd core.
ok, so i guess i was right, you can't use a 4870 x2 in windowed mode and get all its performance out of it. But there is one way 
Also, i know many people will be saying it won't work well since the other game will still be using memory, and other things, but i was able to Fallout 3 in windowed with the same settings i use in full screen (Ultra, Max AA and AF) and have a constant 60 frames. This was all with no slowdowns on just 2 gigs of ram.

- Pretty much you start up a game, but make sure its not the one you want in windowed, in full screen. For me, i chose Red Alert 3 and only booted to the main menu.
- Then alt-tab to desktop and make sure your clocks are correct. As for me they were both at 750/900.
- Then start up your windowed mode game, but keep the full screen game minimized still. In my case, Fallout 3.
- Now you should be playing your windowed game at the right clocks and full gpu processing power!
