I'm not getting any signal from my card. If hit the power button on my computer the monitor stays in power save mode but everything starts up. The fan on the video card seems to be spinning. If I unplug the dvi cable the monitor will give a check cable error message. There's no error beep upon startup so I think it's being recognized by the motherboard. Any idea whats wrong? I'm have the latest bios for the motherboard.

The last 4850 I had (this one i have now is a replacement) booted up fine but the signal to my monitor went out of range during some games and the sound sometimes went into a repeating loop. This was with both windows xp and vista 64. I'm beginning to think i made a huge mistake going with an ati card. :mad::mad:
 
i notice the heatsink is barely even warm. the last one i had was almost too hot to touch without the fan fix applied. i tried reseating the card three times but still i'm getting a black screen. should i go ahead and rma? anyone ever rma'ed with visiontek? how long does it take? i really wish i'd gotten a 9800gtx+ instead. these 4800 cards seem to have some real problems.
 
What happened to the previous card? Sounds like it might be a mobo/psu issue killing your cards.
 
Can you borrow another card from someone? Seems like the problem may go beyond the card. I have never had random videoloss (without a post error), even with bad cards.
 
the previous card worked but whenever i played games i'd loose signal after playing games for awhile and the computer would have to be rebooted to get it back. it didn't do it in every game, some games i could play for hours without a problem and other games i'd loose signal after like a minute. the temps never went over 70 load. i tried everything to get it to stop but nothing worked so i exchanged it for another one which doesn't seem to work at all.

i don't think i can get anyone to let me borrow their card and the only other cards i have myself are all agp.
 
well shouldn't a corsair vx450 be able to power a single 4850 easily though? what about all the other 4850/70 users who have problems with signal loss? how can we all have defective mobos? some people who are having this problem are using quality 600+ watt power supplies. why does it seem to do it with some games and not others?
 
Have you tried leaving your monitor unplugged for a while? I replaced my mobo and CPU after some no post crap only to find out it the monitor just decided it liked saying no signal. Unplugged it and let it sit a while and all was good.
 
I would really try the card in another comp or find another card to test out. It really seems like you setup has something wrong with it. 2 cards dying is mighty high odds.
 
i just tried one last time to get a signal. i even tried leaving the monitor unplugged for five minutes and still nothing. if my pci-e slot was shorting or something there should be some beeps right? one long and two short if i remember right.\

when i first took the card out i noticed there's a scratch on the plastic cooler guard and some of the caps are slightly bent. is it possible newegg sent me a refurbed or open box card?
 
so many cheap psu. I think PSU is problems most of times. why does motherboard cause problem? PSU is supplying voltage/power. bad application makes fried circuitry. GET a single voltage rail PSU like PCP&C or corsair.
 
i got a replacement card from visiontek. the card seems to work fine using catalyst 8.9s. i played oblivion for 2 hours without signal loss to my monitor. the bad thing is this card runs hotter than the first one and the fan has an annoying whine at anything over 35% speed. i hit 93 degrees playing oblivion with the fan at 35%. Simply ridiculous. I wish I'd gotten a 9800GTX+ instead. :(
