45nm Quad Core Erratum?

It seems both sides are mucking up thier engineering! :(

45nm Core 2 Quad launch is planned for Q1'08, and we are still on track for that. We can't comment on web speculation.

What happened to January 20th !? This may give AMD some well needed breathing room.

has anyone ever encountered an errata in a real world scenario? it seems like erratum are a natural part of the engineering process and it doesn't really affect anyone in the real world except possibly servers. i mean, haven't ALL new processors had erratum when they were first released? so why does everyone have a problem with a few errors that will never be realized by anyone anyways?

Appearances can be everything in this world. With AMD,its different as it (the latest and most glaring one) can easily be qauntified and benchmarked to show a true negative.

All processors have erratum. AMD just typically has more issues relating to it than Intel normally does.

The issue with the Phenom is a problem that can easily be replicated consistantly. It also makes one of the advertised features (virtualization support) nearly useless.

Typically, any errata in a processor can only be duplicated by following a specific process. Still, the errata can and do happen in the real world and the documentation is really for programmers so that they avoid triggering the bugs.

With the Barcelona fiasco still fresh in everyone's minds, Intel and AMD are probably taking erratum much more seriously in the near future... until everyone forgets. :p
