I'm running into some major problems with my first OC. Either the system won't Post, or it reboots itself randomly.

Following Eclipse's OC Guide to the letter, here is where I am, or want to be:
HTT 220 with multiplier of 11x is 2420Mhz. Voltage is 1.408.
Now, following Eclipse for my RAM, my divider is 2420/(11/13:12)=10.185.
Therefore my RAM should be at 242MHz, and CPU at 2420MHz. I would think my system should be able to handle that, but it can't and I don't know why. My RAM voltage is 2.75.

Any ideas of what to do next?

My Max HTT is 216. Anything past that, and I can't Post. I can't figure out what the deal is, but it may be my RAM. The mobo only lets you choose specific MHz for the RAM OC. So it's either 216MHz(Which is stock) or 233MHz, then 250MHz. WHat do you make of this?

those are the memory ratios. 216 is 13:12, 233 = 7:6, 250 = 5:4. i'm sure you read the part about how to calculate ram speed :D

if you can't get over 216mhz.. did you remember to lower the HT link (aka LDT) ratio, preferably to 3x or 600mhz, whichever one your board lists it as

I did read the part about calculating your RAM Speed, that's how I got my memory divider in my OP. ***2420/(11/13:12)=10.185***

No I didn't remember to lower my HT Link ratio. I'm not even sure what that is. I better read that guide one more time.....frustrating :(

Okay, so I cheated. I decided to run the Asus overclock for me. I put it at 10%, so now I am running at HTT220 (11x mutliplier)=2420MHz. I guess it also automatically oc's your RAM too as CPU-Z is showing it at 240MHz at 2-3-2-6 1T. So far system is stable, but I'm going to run some tests.

10% is a pretty weak overclock, I wouldnt be satisfied with 220.

Try bumping your vcore to about 1.45-1.5 (for the time being, take it as low as you can go after you get to like 240 or something) and make sure your LDT is at 3X or 4X, Check your memory ratio and timings...make sure to loosen them and bump voltage if you go much over 200

Let us know what happens!

lol I was just looking at the original post, and I was like "he must be doing something wrong if his memory is running faster than his HTT!"

edit, tripple post, woohoo!!

Okay, so the Asus overclock is sort of a cop out. When you are talking about the LDT, I am assumming that is the SB to NB Frequency, which mine is at 5x, so I need to lower that to 3x. Should I change my HTT multiplier? If I am doing the math correctly, my RAM multiplier is CPU/10, which always then comes out to a 1:1 ratio.

ok, your LDT is your HTT multiplier. It is your hypertransport speed.

Leave the NB-SB link at 5X (never heard of that on a K8 system) and lower your LDT or HTT multiplier (which ever it says) to 3 for now. whenyou finish your OC, change it to whatever will give you closest to 1000 HTT... 250x4X = 1000MHz

Make sence?

nah, you gotta lower both of them. the NB-SB link is the ht link between the two chipsets, and the K8-NB link is the ht link between the cpu and NB.. both should have very similar limits.. so just make them the same: 600mhz (3x multi)

wierd, I thought I left the northbridge-southbridge thing when i migrated from intel...

does my mobo have this Nb-Sb connection? ive never seen it, definatly never lowered it.
