I've had my 4400+ since January, and recently, i applied AS5, my idle temps before the AS5 seemed high 50'ish, now my temps now, after the AS5 are 46 idle /52 load, I had it over-clocked (to a 4800) and as soon as i saw the temp was a near 60 after battlefield 2, i decided it was WAY too high for my liking, so i brought it back to 2.2ghz, am i in need of a new heatsync?

my proc is getting excellent airflow so thats not the problem, the plastic card on the heatsync is off, and the heatsync is properly fitted, and i used a grain of rice sized glob of AS5...Any help is appreciated.

Those temperatures seem a tad high. What program are you using to measure the temperature? Also, what heatsink do you use?

There is a burn in period after you apply AS5. Go to their web site to find out how long is that time frame. It's also a good idea to check their website to make sure you applied the AS5 correctly as the give pictures on the exact amount and placement of the AS5.

burn in time is around 200 hours if i recall correctly and for the stock HS that isn't bad

lol, well I applied it around the 15th of July, and i use my computer everyday....so probably just about 200 hours...still have high temps, i applied the AS5 correctly, i actually used my laptop with that guide on to help me ;)

I would try spreading a very thin, even layer of AS5 on the processor instead of the 'rice grain' method and see if that helps. You also might want to compare idle temps with several different programs to rule out software glitches. I would check the temp in the bios, then speedfan and maybe something else like Everest or Sandra and see if they are all close to the same. Also..even though the stock heatsink (I assume that's what you're using) is pretty good it still won't give you the same temps as one of the top aftermarket solutions.

get an after market hsf. i used to have the stock heatpipe that came w/ my otperon 165 and its temps were 45-48C. i sold it in the for sale section and got a zalman 9500 and my temps dropped to 37C. i sold my zalman 9500 on the for sale section again and went w/ watercooling and dropped my temp to 32C.

Scythe Ninja. Then the Big Typhoon. Then the Zalman 9500 suggested above.

Why in that order? Scythe ninja can be run quieter and is alot cheaper than the other two.

I recommend the Ninja, as many people love their's. They can be had for about 32$ shipped.

nice, ill have to get one then :)
but having problems finding it with a <40 dollar price tag, do you have a link?

Thanks for the quick responses guys!

But the Typhoon comes WITH a good quiet fan, where the Scythe doesn't, therefore adding to the cost, effectively making them equal pricing. And a case with a side intake blowing into the cpu area works incredibly well with the Typhoon, especially if you have less than jet engine/stellar case airflow.

Yup, high 50s -60s is too high, my 4400 and 4800 idle 34-38 and max is 51oC and thats playing games for hours.

Maybe you need better ventilation in your case and a new cpu cooler, but even with the stock 4400 amd heatsink and fan, i never had those high temps.....

Glad to hear you got it fixed tho ;)
