on a 42inch tv screen can the card and a XP1700 handle playing at least Quake 2 on it? Or whats the most u think it can handle. (this game isn't at all whats going to be run I just need to see what the card can hanlde on a screen this size)
 
its not the size of the screen that matters, rather the resolution that the screen runs at. Even a 42" hdtv probably doesn't run at a very high resolution. I would say you are probably fine.
 
720p is about 1024x768, 9600xt should play more than q3 at that res :)
