400W Fortron enough?

would a 400W Fortron be enough for a RAID-5 fileserver with 6xSATA 250GB drives and 1xIDE 60GB drive?

Start up on those 7 drives will pull 14 plus AMPS, add to that your CPU load, vid card etc. Without seeing the specs on the PSU your mentioning I’d have to guess and say that’s a bit on the lite side.

Don't forget to subtract about 25 to 30% from each rail's total due to heat as well.

Take a look in the sticky section in the “How too” stuff to get a better idea.
 
thanks, maybe it would be cheaper/easier to find a RAID card that has staggered spin-up...i think i read that somewhere...maybe that was something else...:confused:
