their performance PSU have the highest warranty in the business (5years)
and are widely comnsidered the best you can buy for a desktop
not sure about their Dell replacement PSU warranty period might be the same
and Im not familiar enough with the various Dell Models to tell you if yours is proprietary
or would accept any good quality ATX12V
PCP&C is the first name in PSU around here
I have one running my dually opteron workstation
According to the FAQ, the power supply is standard ATX, but the mounting is a little difficult due to the case.
In any case, I'm sure you can find an answer there.
PP&C are great supplies, no problems there. Extra cables shouldn't be a problem if they aren't needed.
That supply looks like it will fit without having to cut the case, but I would still post the question (on the other forum) to see if anyone has tried it.
Having said that, many (myself included) just keep the dell PS, it's a very high quality/robust unit.
well im having trouble with it and my radeon 9800 pro
1.ati recomend a 300 watt power supply and i only have 250
2. my radeon 9800 pro keeps over heating and i have to put a fan on it to cool it down so my computer will start
3. and just on thursday i had to rma my card because one of the power progs on the video card was completly burnt
It's got to be the videocard. I have been running an X800XT Platinum Edition for over three months on a 400SC without a single issue. The 9800 Pro isn't very power hungry, and despite the 250 watt rating, it's a very robust power supply.
Not a big deal. The Radeon 9800 Pro draws mostly from the 3.3 and 5 volt rails, while your drives draw mostly from the 12 volt rail, and some from the 5 volt rail. Most ATX12V version 1.3 power supplies, like that of the 400SC, have pretty beefy 3.3 and 5 volt rails in terms of current draw, and this is why I feel that the power supply is providing sufficient power for both your drives and the Radeon
so what should i do about all the overheating, and the fact that one of my power prongs on the card burnt out, and woould artic cool help or would it just eat up my power
That all sounds like just a fluke. Your replacement videocard shouldn't exhibit any of those signs. The overheating shouldn't be a problem because the 400SC is well ventilated, and the 9800 Pro doesn't run particularly hot. As for the burned connector, that sounds like a faulty connection. Think about it, if it was your power supply's fault, then every device connected to that power cable chain would have burned connectors.
