4.0ghz

yeah, a lot of people have hit 4.0GHz on air with the 630/640 P4's, they seem to be great overclockers
 
OEM = original equipment manufacturer. It means the companies that makes products or parts used in products by other companies.

So all Intel CPUs are OEM manufactured technically (Intel being the OEM)

Which Dell system do you have? You still may be able to overclock if it is Dim 9100, 5100, Gen4, Gen5, XPS 600, and some Dim8400's (newer ones that have 925XE chipset).

Has anyone hit 4Ghz with the Intel's Retail HSF??? ;)

If so what is ur ambient temp... how many fans do you have in your case... what case are you using?!?!

i almost did with my 3.2E. It topped out at 3.85 because my temps were dipping into the high 60s. I did it on air with my 3.2E. Temps never topped 55C and my voltage was 1.46

I'm not gonna say I have, i've heard of E0 775's doing it though. I know you can on a really shitty hsf so i'd assume its possible with the retail.

But yeah I just got a 640 and Abit as8 because I heard it will hit 4 easily. Hell, my 2.4 hits 3.5 easily and that a 1.1ghz oc. I just need my 3.2 to do a 800mhz overclock. I am going to use a thermalright sp97 though.
 
I have a P4 630 and I'm lucky that it's running at 3 ghz. I had to watercool it just to get it at a stable 52C temp.

How's the mating surface? I ask because my 630 doubled as a friggin' shot glass. When I pulled off the hsf, I found only the sides of the ihs touching it! :eek:
 
Makes ya wonder how the hell some of these people successfully OC their cpu while not knowing what "oem" means or stands for.

Just look at it this way...a product with no packaging. Same stuff, but cheaper b/c you don't have to pay for the packaging.

just because a product comes with no packaging means its an OEM... OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer... all P4's are OEM because they are made by Intel... now if AMD made P4's the they would be OEM replacement... now i know places that sell bare processors call them OEM, but bare processors are usually meant for system integrators and the E in OEM stand for the computer as a whole... just look at Windows when you buy an OEM copy, you are "suposed" to buy a piece of hardware along with it, it is not usually meant as a stand alone product.

but you are right, buying "OEM" processors is cheaper because you arent paying for flashy packaging... but you are typically losing 2 yrs. on a warrente(sp?) on "OEM" processors.... but then again its void if you OC it ;)

Flat, cause I lapped it. I tried everything, until finally dumping it on the WC kit.

Ouch. I got to play with 2 other 630's and one of them from costa rica had trouble posting at 3200!! Luck of the draw we see :( Does yours oc much?
 
I haven't tried OCing it at all. It's sitting at 52C idle. Course, under load it still sits at 52C. I'm thinking the cooling no longer is the issue and the mobo has bad sensors or something.

I plan on swapping out the board anyways. I wasn't thinking when I bought the board, but it only has two mem slots. I can't use my OCZ DDR Booster. Looking for a good LGA775 board that has more than 2 mem slots and uses DDRI.

Crap, i have a dimension 9100 and I was bummed cause my parents bought it which is good but I was sure I couldnt overclock it. How do you overclock the dimension 9100? I have a 630 in mine. Btw I have never overclocked an intel system before.
 
You cant do it easily. There is no BIOS or program to do it. There is a pin-mod that has to be done physically, voiding your warranty. If you wanna do that theres a thread on it here somehwere.
 
I did a few searches but nothing is coming up, does anyone know where the thread is?

Yeah, that sounds odd :D FWIW, I enjoyed my time with the Abit AS8.
 
Running my 640 at 260fsb atm with no problems at all idle about 47c with full load of about 59c cooling on air with zalman9500.
