What is the best hardware i need to get a q6600 at 4.0ghz overclocked with good temps. Motherboard cooling, ram case.

any ip 35 mobo
case with goopd air flow
likely water cooling rig so air flow isnt so needed but to keep other parts cool.
and some luck you get a good chip :)

4.0GHZ cannot be easily reached by a Q6600 even with water cooling (although phase cooling would help!).
You will need some luck
Maybe you should wait for Penryn...

The Abit IP35-Pro and G.SKILL 2*2GB DDR2-1066 would be a good start.
Thermaltake Armor with 25cm fan offers good airflow but it is a bit noisy.

Anyway, the performance difference between 4.0GHZ and (a more realistic) 3.6GHZ is not incredible. There are applications that can benefit from extreme clocking but you should exclude current games.

The case is not that bad for me, I don't even hear it after awhile. Its around 2ft away from me. I hear my Raptors more than anything and my airfilter (on high) before I notice the case fans. I was even considering another bay fan (iCage) for more air intake. Newegg is selling it for around $21 otd, same one that comes with the case.

I am able to hit 4g on air with a G0 Q6600 and an unlapped true at 1.5v...but my temps get a bit high(idle mid 40's... I stopped prime small when it hit 69). I am going to lapp them and get higher cfm fans later this spring and try again.(using 1200 rpm/65cfm scythes now for their low db)

Now the funny thing is...at least to me 4.0 was noticably peppier than 3.6...now that might have been me being all excited because I hit 4.0 my first try...

the 780i board I am using now has been very nice to work with. now I will admit I might have gotten a "pick of the litter" board...but after fighting with a 680i board for months...this board has been cake. took to 3.6 on first boot and rock stable.

Provided you have a case with good ariflow and good G0 proc...4 should be do-able with the right prep and patience. the main problem is that it is not certian that you will get a prime G0 proc...it is kind of hit and miss. same with the MB.

4g on water would definatally be easier...and easier still with a penryn...but if money and time are not an issue...it is possible

What about a tec cooler a.k.a peltier? I seen some mention water but no tec and i have a tec and it cools great, as good or better then most average water set ups.

Good Day

4.0GHz on a Q6600 is very difficult. On a Yorkfield it is no problem, but Kentsfield? Forget it. Not on air cooling and not on water cooling. Few motherboards will be able to take the CPU that high even if you found a CPU that could do it.

My e6750 will run fine @ 3.83 but after that it acts flakey but then my motherboard died. and now have a peltier and have to wait untili get everthing back togethor to see what the issue was the chip or the motherboard or both.

OP: Good luck on the 4gighrz man, let us no what happens.

Good Day
