3dmarks messed up?

i have the following system
a64 3000+ o/c @3200+
2x256mb infineon pc3200
asus k8ve deluxe
radeon 9800 pro with arctic cooler heat pipe
now onto my problem i ran 3dmark01 and got 19685 3dmarks which beats my buddies system with a x800pr0 and a p4 3.0 wich got about 18,933 but when i run 3dmark03 i get 5995 and he gets 9985, whats the deal i have never heard of somone having that big a dip between versions, most people who get 19000+ atleast get 8000 in 03 from what i have seen. is my system messed or what?
 
No discrepancy, there. :)

3DMark01 is mostly subsystem-limited (CPU+RAM) while 3DMark03 is mostly GPU-limited (video card). The scores you listed for a 9800 Pro and X800 Pro are not unusual for '03.
 
i realize it is a better card, i'm not crazy, but i don't get why i whoop its ass in 3dmark01, and why as soon as i upgraded from a xp 3200+ to a amd64 300+ my 3dmark score went up almost 5000 points but stayed the same in 03

The difference between those two processors is probably around 200 points or so, in 3DMark03. Only GT1 is really affected strongly by your subsystem (7.3 points per FPS), so I wouldn't expect a lot of gain. On the other hand, 3DMark01 is now mostly CPU-bound, so you would see a bigger difference.
