3Dc and overclocking

I got a X800Pro and I was wondering if DOOM3, HL2, Farcry and other games are gonna support 3Dc?? If those games start supporting the technology will we see and nice performance boost in all those games from this technology? Also I was wondering is it possible to overclock my X800 Pro to same speed at the X800XT? Because i wasnt in the mood to wait for the X800XT. I just want something to hold me off till i really upgrade.

Farcry and HL2 will support 3dc. Doom 3.. its doubtful. Should see a small increase in speed, but honestly the quality of 3dc is what i believe is what people should be looking at. It looks almost like normal mapping from what i have seen. Maybe a half step below ;) . You can OC your X800pro to the clock speeds of the X800XT but your card wont be as fast. x800pro=12 pipelines x800xt = 16 pipelines. Its a pretty big difference.

3Dc is normal map compression so I would hope it would look like normal mapping :)
On average i would probably expect a 5-10% performance increase if they just use 3Dc without increasing the quality of the maps.

IIRC 3dc isn't implemented under OpenGL right now, so it is currently impossible to implement in doom3. (where a lossless or near lossless normal map compression would be usefull)

3dc sounds nice but from what ive heard DXTC5 is very comparable.

sm 3.0 is a much better technology than 3dc. thats why i posted what i did. 3dc from what ive heard can increase picture quality a little better over DXTC 5.

both formats offer the same compression ratio tho so the performance gain would be the same any/all cards.

i think its 4/1 it just seems image quality wise there is a little more detail with 3dc.

when you hear the comparo's (serious sam and stuff) usually its a comparo of no dxtc5 vs 3dc or a worst case scenerio.

i would like to see some games support this feature and we can see what the difference is going to be from there.

all in all im all about better image quality and i hope it gets adopted into direct x so all parties can use it.

sm 3.0 offeres many things that 20.b cannot do as far as image quality and effects. you will see some of this with the 1.3 patch in far cry.

all in all SM3.0 > 3dc.

now every and any improvement is just that so i bow to ati for taking initiative with 3dc but from a technology stand point i personally see sm3.0 being the better technology.

to be quite honest i would rather my 6800 GT come with 3dc than sm3.0.... i seriously dont think sm3.0 is all that hot
