My 3007 is looking grainy. Here's a close up. What do you guys think. Is this normal looking?

The white background is particularly noticeable. Games look great, it's just 2D apps that take on a grainy appearance. Here is a link to a larger shot.

That looks like SDE (Screen Door Effect) to me. I've seen that on two of my Dell monitors. I believe it can be a common issue on LCDs.

What resolution are you running it right now? Maybe you should set your monitor to the highest recommendation for it if you haven't already. Are you using a VGA or DVI connection??

It's normal to look like that if you stand THAT close to the screen. :p

Or maybe you're not running the native 2560x1600 resolution.

Running native 2560x1600 on an 8800gtx. Using DVI cable that came with monitor.

I admit the shot I took looks exagerated because it's so close, but when I compare the display to the Samsung 204 sitting right next to it, the Samsung is not grainy at all. At first I thought the 3007's pixel pitch was larger, but according to Newegg, Samsung 204 has a Pixel Pitch of 0.285mm, the 3007 is 0.250mm.
I have never seen another 3007 to compare with mine, so I'm just wondering if this is normal.

In my experience, S-IPS panels have a stronger screen door effect than other types of panels because there's a little more space between the pixels. That's probably what you're seeing. Your picture looks normal for S-IPS panels.

I am giong to have to disagree with that. I think more of it has to do with the quality of the panel and buidl of the monitor. We already know dell doesnt buy the best panels they can and dont build to the highest standards. I would equate it to that. There are far to many customers (hospitals, graphic designers) who pay a lot more for S-IPS and woudl not settle for something with screen door effect.

My NEC 20WMGX2 must have a poor quality panel then because the Dell 2405FPW has less of a screen door effect.

I've used several different monitors, and all of the monitors that had an S-IPS panel were the same way. When I look closely at S-IPS panels, lit pixels look rounder, and it looks like there's more space between the pixels, while on other types of panels, lit pixels look more like squares, and the pixels look more filled in.

People pay more for S-IPS panels for the color accuracy and wide viewing angles, not something minor like screen door effect, which most people don't notice anyway.

Edit: The other thing it could be is the anti-glare coating, which is noticeable on some monitors more than others, but the pictures aren't showing that. If it looks like there's a light coat of dust on the screen, then it's the anti-glare coating.
